Sagar Science Forum (SSF) conducts a set of programs at regular intervals to better equip science teachers and to create interest in science among the student community.
This program is dedicated to the high-school and PU students. Initially started as the ‘Ganitha Manthana’ and confined to discussions on mathematics only, the program was later turned into ‘Vignana Manthana’ to include all topics of science.
The program follows a schedule in which every month, on a Sunday, a renowned scientist along with an eminent professor from a premier research institute and university meet the students of 9th and 10th standards for about three hours. They introduce the students to various fascinating facts and concepts on science and talk about the current trends in the scientific field. On an average, about 60 to 70 students attend this program while actively participating in the discussions.
We organize every year a Science Camp for three days for the 11th standard students. (This is a similar concept as the Inspire Internship Science Camps, which is a component of the INSPIRE project of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.) In this workshop too, the students get direct exposure to meet and interact with eminent scientists. The workshops are designed in a creative and interactive way to engage the students into various science-based activities and experiments.
These workshops are designed to enrich the expertise and skills of the teachers. Here they get to meet in person eminent educationists and experts who help them solve many of the problems both at the conceptual level and for practical scenarios. These workshops are residential programs for higher primary school and high-school teachers.
A basic course in mathematics is also conducted during the interaction with teachers to enhance conceptual clarity. Also Mathematics is a must for all branches of science. There is a plan to organize a basic course in mathematics (not based on any particular scholastic syllabus). The syllabus will cover the basic things that such people should be knowing for their further pursuits.
Conducted in rural locations and also taking students-teachers to Science museums & institutes of repute giving genuine interaction with experts/scientists in various areas of basic science.
